History
After little more than a decade the impact of Waterberg Academy is apparent. It has ensured the retention of many of the area’s most active economic role players and job providers, and also attracted many new property owners to the area from South Africa and abroad. With these arrivals have come skills, investment, and the economic growth sorely needed in the community.
At the Waterberg Academy, we aim to sensitise our pupils to the principal issues at stake, to debate ways in which they can be addressed; and to participate in programmes designed to reduce the impact we have on our surroundings.
Why we aim to make a difference.
Globally mankind needs to analyse environmental issues.
It is vital that concepts such as sustainable development, bio-diversity and how to achieve environmental awareness are grasped.
Environment
We need community minded citizens who, irrespective of their locality on the globe, will be capable of making a positive contribution in their immediate environment and community.
We must develop young citizens, who will be champions for the environmental cause and Man’s ultimate survival; they will be eco-wise.
How can this be achieved?
Develop life skills through practical, hands-on and ‘real world’ experiences.
Develop too, the concept of empowerment and that making responsible decisions is both vital and critical.
Qualities such as leadership and innovation need to be encouraged and developed.
A culture of service beyond self must be both fostered and deep-rooted.
An understanding that educating for survival requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to the needs of our times.
Christian Ethos
While respecting and welcoming learners of different faith backgrounds, the Waterberg Academy endeavours to nurture a developing spiritual life from a Christian perspective.
All learners attend a weekly chapel service and are encouraged to attend a Sunday church service at one of the many Christian churches in the Vaalwater area.
Academic Ethos
As a school with a rich and ever growing tradition of academic excellence, Waterberg Academy continually strives to keep abreast of new methodologies, technology, curriculum content and diversity in an effort to ensure our pupils meet the rigorous academic requirements of modern education. These targets are achieved through the active participation of Academy staff in programmes conducted by ISASA
The school follows an established admissions policy which ensures that prospective pupils will not only cope, but excel in the academic programme the school offers.
